TEAM Evolution’s Marlon `Fishy’ Williams yesterday won the feature 35-lap race of the P&P Insurance brokers and Consultancy Limited sponsored 11-race cycle programme at the National Park.The event which was organized by Hassan Mohamed of the Carlton Wheelers Cycle Club in collaboration with the P&P Insurance Brokers and Consultancy Limited saw the overall second place finisher Orville Hinds along with Williams breaking from the pack after four laps were completed and the duo dominated the remainder of the 31 laps.
However, one lap later Raphael Leung caught up with the leading pair, but soon after he dropped out due to the intense pace that was set by Williams and Hinds, who both went on to lap the field, minus Leung,during the next lap.
Williams and Hinds stayed together and joined the chasing pack,which they had already lapped, with five laps remaining. It was during this period that Leung was lapped and with four laps remaining, Williams and Hinds was a mere 100 metres in sight of Leung and the chasing bunch.
They (Williams and Hinds) overtook the chasing bunch with two laps remaining and set up the sprint to the finish which Williams easily won without a challenge from Hinds.
In the sprint for third, Team Evolution’s Raul Leal outsprinted eight others to finish third, while Akeem Wilkinson, Paul DeNobrega and Christopher Griffith occupied the other three top positions respectively.
Williams’ winning time for the event was one hour 17 minutes 54 seconds. Hinds, while settling for second, won all eight prime prizes that were up for grabs.
The co-feature event which was the 10-lap race for juveniles, was won by Nigel Dugid in a time of 26 minutes and 27 seconds. Second was Raphael Leung and third was Christopher Cornelius.
In other results, Nicholas Alphonso won the five-lap race for mountain bikers ahead of Seon Budhan and Jason Herbert respectively, while Andrew Spencer won the five-lap race for veterans over 50 years of age. Kennard Lovell placed second and Linden Blackman third.
Jaikarran Sukhai won the five-lap race for veterans under 50 years of age ahead of Ian `Dumb Boy’ Jackson and Bochel Samaroo respectively.
Adalie Hodge was the winner of the BMX boys 12-14 three-lap race in which Turan Garbarran placed second.
Hodge also won the three-lap race for boys and girls 12-14 years ahead of Mario Ellis.
The BMX boys 9-12 years old three-lap race was won by Zab James. Second was Adjauni Cutting.
John Niles was the winner of the BMX boys 6-9 years old two-lap race. Second was Alexander Leung and third was Jesicka Mohabir.
The presentation of prizes to the respective winners was done by Jaya Panday, daughter of the sponsor Bish Panday, who has been supporting the development of sports locally for more than two decades.
During her address to the recipients of prizes, Ms. Panday congratulated the participants and organizer of the event,and said her father and his company is happy to be associated with Mohamed’s programme.
