IN response to the recent announcement of beloved actor and comedian Henry Rodney’s sudden illness, local performers and beneficiaries have banded together to stage a Benefit Concert to raise funds for medical expenses needed for his treatment. The concert, “RUKATUKS”, will be staged tomorrow at the National Cultural Centre at 20:00hrs, and will be directed by Ron Robinson.
The event will see performances by the “Nothing to Laugh About crew, The Reactors, Simone Dowding, Kirk “Chow Pow” Jardine, Leza “Radika” Singh, the National School of Dance, Mr Kwesi “Ace” Edmondson, Free Souls Dance Movement, Sheron Cadogan-Taylor, Leslyn Bobbsemple, Sean Bhola, the National Drama Company, and many other local talent.
According to a release, Henry Rodney “has been ailing for a while now, and has visited many local doctors. And after a variety of examinations and tests, his health still seems to be deteriorating rapidly. “Consequently, arrangements are being made to fly him to Trinidad for urgent medical prognosis and treatment.”
Henry has been an entertainer for over 30 years locally and abroad, and is still very much a household name today.
He has brought many to stardom, and is very much loved for his kindness, humility and, of course, his many talents, which include singer, songwriter and poet.
Henry was also a teacher at St. Joseph High School, Apex Academy, St. Roses High School. He currently teaches at the Marian Academy, the release said.
Tickets for “RUKATUKS” cost $1500 and $1000, and are on sale at the National Cultural Centre.
