A MAN is in custody helping the police with their investigations into the shooting of a 15-year-old apprentice mechanic during an armed robbery in South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

According to ‘A’ Division’s Commander Clifton Hicken, not only has a suspect been arrested, but the police has also impounded a car looking very much like the one seen in video footage from the crime scene, right down to the licence plate.

This arrest comes one day after the teen, Jahmaul Lewis of Wren Avenue, South Ruimveldt, was shot in the face at his place of employ, just a corner away from where he lives. A student of the North Ruimveldt Multilateral School, Lewis, who is reportedly “responding to treatment”, worked at the mechanic shop every day after school for about an hour.

Reports are that, on the day in question, he’d just returned from buying plantain chips, and was sitting on his bicycle when three armed men stormed the mechanic shop, which also serves as a base for Green Ice Taxi Service. The incident reportedly occurred at about 14:00hrs.

Lewis, who was apparently the first person the bandits encountered, was reportedly told to lie on the ground, but having failed to comply, he was shot.
He and his fellow employees were robbed of their ‘cell-phones’ and a small amount of cash, after which the suspects escaped in a silver coloured Toyota Spacio, the registration number of which is unknown.

Employees say they initially thought it was a prank when the bandits descended on the place, and that it was not until Lewis was shot and they were relieved of their valuables that they realised it was an armed robbery.
