THE Carlton Wheelers Cycle Club in collaboration with Guyoil will stage the 17th annual Father’s Day 50-mile cycle road race on Sunday in the West Demerara area.According to coordinator of the event, Hassan Mohamed, the event will wheel off from in front the Wales Police Station, West Bank Demerara, proceed to Schoonord where the cyclists will make a left turn into the village and circle the main road before exiting on the West Demerara public road and journey to Uitvlugt before turning back to finish at the Demerara Harbour Bridge, a distance of 50 miles.
The first six overall finishers will be rewarded for their efforts as will the top three finishers in each of the following categories; Juniors, Juveniles, Veterans Under-50 years Ladies.
The first cyclist over 60 years of age will also be rewarded.
The defending champion of the event is Team Evolution’s Orville Hinds who completed the distance in one hour 55 minutes 50 seconds.
Jamal John is the defending champion of the Juniors while Junior Niles won the Veterans’ category last year. Deeraj Garbarran won the Boys’ 12-14 years category and Toshwana Doris won the Ladies’ category.
