THE Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA) zone of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/NAMILCO U-17 nationwide League tournament served up 13 goals among the eight competing teams on the opening match day watched by a handful of spectators at the Tucville ground.In yesterday’s opening encounter reduced to a 60-mimute affair, from 70 minutes, after a delayed start, Santos FC clobbered a 10-man Camptown FC 5-nil

Nazeem Algernon initiated the onslaught when he scored from the Penalty mark in the 19th minute after the ball was handled in the box by a defender. Five minutes later Eon Adonis made it 2-0 and two minutes from the interval captain Cosmos Dos Santos added his name to the scorers’ list.
Algernon would net his second goal of the match when he converted 17 minutes after the resumption and one minute from full time Ryan Dowding made it 5-0 and that was how it ended.
The second game resulted in a 2-0 win for Alpha United over Pele FC. The diminutive Shaquan Favorite sent Alpha into the lead in the 33rd minute and five minutes after the break Travis McDonald sealed the victory for the much bigger Alpha side.
Eastville had to stave off a spirited challenge by Order and Discipline to win by a similar score-line with goals from Teon Van Kenic in the 30th minute and Shamar Carrington in the 40th minute.
In the final game of the day, home team Fruta Conquerors easily took care of the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) by a 3-1 margin. Jermey Garnett powered his way through the middle in the 12th minute to give Conquerors the advantage, but seven minutes on Tamiel Hutson equalised for the Bourda Blues.
Malachi Adonis regained the lead for the Fruta Boys in the 25th minute and 15 minutes after the interval Roshan Rich stretched the lead to 3-1.
The eight-team GFA League competition will continue this coming Saturday at the said Tucville ground with four more games, beginning at 09:30 hrs
