THE Tiger Bay Project has received a boost with technology giant STARR Computer Friday donating one desktop computer and accessories to assist with ICT classes for children in the area. The project was founded by School of the Nations, Mings Products and Services and New Thriving Restaurant and it has been supported by kind-hearted citizens.
Children of Tiger Bay receive free classes three times per week at School of the Nations. Classes include information technology, developing better reading skills, homework assistance, moral development and other subject areas.
Rehman Majeed, General Manager of STARR Computer, said that “an investment in children is an investment in our future.
“We must offer assistance in whatever small way we can to children who are victims of circumstances.”
Coordinator of the Tiger Bay Project, Balinda Beckles, said the children who benefit from classes are between ages 3-15. Classes are held Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 15:30hrs and 17:00hrs.  She explained that the screen for the previous computer was broken and she had enquired from STARR Computer about a replacement. However, the company decided to donate an entire desktop computer with accessories without a request.
“We are very grateful to STARR Computer; we normally have to ask for stuff and we just enquired and we were given without question.
“Other public- spirited citizens are free to donate to the classes,” the teacher said.
