A DAY/night affair will be the set-up that the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) has decided on for the GTT, Fly Jamaica and Ansa McAl-sponsored National Race of Champions round two.GMR&SC committee member Paul Jiwanram disclosed to Chronicle Sport yesterday that round two of the local racing championship will take place on Saturday July 16 2016 at the South Dakota Circuit, in contrast to the usual Sunday races.
Additionally, instead of the usual three races, there will be two races per class.
Meanwhile the club is seeking to make it an all-inclusive event as the plan is to transform the inner circuit of the South Dakota raceway to allow patrons to bring their camping gear to facilitate overnight arrangements.
According to Jiwanram, lights have been sourced to illuminate the entire track in an attempt to ensure good clean racing with the day/night decision taken following a meeting with racing stakeholders on Tuesday.
The change is to facilitate competitive practice before the second round of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championships (CMRC) 2016 in Trinidad just eight days after.
The other measure, taken into consideration, was the fact that the vehicles that competed in the CMRC round one in Jamaica will be back on July 14 with several of them expected to undergo repairs and upgrades ahead of round two.
The event will begin at 14:00hrs. However scrutineering and checks will be done from 08:00hrs with time trials expected to commence two hours later
Meanwhile, the GMR&SC is also looking at a possible treat for fans who attend, though this has not been confirmed.
Several of the country’s top riders and drivers are expected to be on show at the event.
