WORLD’S fastest man Usain Bolt believes he is in fairly reasonable shape ahead of his season debut in the Cayman Islands today.Bolt will test his early season progress over the 100m distance, a race that will be his first since capturing a hard-fought sprint double at last year’s IAAF World Championships in Beijing.
The sprinter was hampered by injury for most of last season, but despite suffering a setback in his early preparation with an ankle issue, believes he is in good form ahead of the Cayman Island’s Invitational.
Bolt hopes training partner Yohan Blake, who opened the season with an impressive 9.93 clocking two weeks ago, will serve as a yardstick for his own progress so far.
“This is my first race, so you never know what to expect, because race fitness is different from training,” Bolt told the AFP.
“The way I feel I should run a good time, because I train with (Yohan) Blake, who ran a good time (9.93) already this season,” he added.
Bolt’s competition today will come from another Racer’s Track Club teammate Kemar Bailey-Cole and Cayman Island’s local Kemar Hyland.
On his previous appearance at the meet in 2013 Bolt clocked a pedestrian 10.09 for a win to open the season.
The race saw Bailey-Cole also given the same time for second place in a photo finish. The sprinter will hope the meet is a solid start on the road to his pursuit of history at the Rio Olympic Games. (Sportsmax.com)
