THE Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) National Schools Basketball Festival, Georgetown & East Coast Regionals continued on Friday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. There were five games played: two female and three Under -14 matches.In the first game of the day, Tutorial High School girls defeated Charlestown Secondary in a low- scoring game with a final scorecard of 8-1.
Denique Ross topscored with four points, while Afisha Brutus and Natisha Nurse both chipped in with two points each for the Tutorial side. Charlestown’s lone point came at the free- throw line from Romona Barnes.
Bishops’ High School took on rival Queen’s College in the second female game and defeated them handily with a scoring display of 18-5. Sileena Arjune topscored with six points, while Kesann Charles and Jayla Jones added eight points between them. Rebecca Persaud and Sandhya Indarjeet combined for the QC girls’ five points.
In the Under-14 contest, President’s College edged Marian Academy by one point in what was a tightly contested game, 25-24.
The President’s College side held their nerves on the final play of the game and gutted out a win in an exciting game. Rakin McDonald had nine points and three rebounds, while Richard Semple backed him up with seven points for the East Coast side. Corey Graham had 10 points and seven rebounds, while team-mate Jether Harris added nine points for Marian.
Bishops’ High School male followed up their female counterparts and knocked off Queen’s College as well in another blowout game.
The game ended 29-10, with the Bishops’ bench playing most of the second half. Timothy Richards, Tyrone Singh and Duwon Younge set the tone early for the Bishops’ side with 10, seven and six points respectively. Lugard Mohan poured in nine of QC’s 10 points.
In the last game of the night, St. Rose’s High also won by blowout, beating Plaisance Secondary 24-3. Jaheem Barton poured in eight points, while Shamar Bristol contributed five points for Roses. Kurt Sampson scored two of Plaisance’s three points.
