IT is always a pleasure to visit the Number 63 Beach, Corentyne, Berbice, for an outing, even if it means travelling for miles to get there, since it is so scenic and tranquil.
But the washroom facilities and changing rooms are in such a rundown state, that women are left with no other option than to relieve themselves in the nearby bushes. The facilities reek of stale

urine, and the floors are dirt-covered and discarded pieces of clothing, among other items, are strewn about.
The washroom is pit-latrine style and it is uncomfortably high for most people of average height, while the changing rooms are flooded with an accompanying stench.
Major events such as the annual Digicel Duck Curry Competition are held at the venue, drawing hundreds of patrons, making it imperative for proper washroom facilities to be installed and maintained.
Number 63 Beach is a notable tourist attraction for Guyanese of all walks of life on various occasions, including family outings. (Michel Outridge)
