THE wife of the security guard who was murdered over a week ago at his Bladen Hall, East Coast Demerara (ECD) workplace wants the police to pay closer attention to a former employee of the company with which he worked. The woman, Maureen Kadir, told the Guyana Chronicle recently that she and family members would like the police to question the security guard who’d worked with the company, Best Buy Hardware Store, before her husband, Abdul Sattaur Kadir, got the job.
“My husband started working there last year, and the previous security who left the job should be questioned, because he lives right in the same area,” Mrs. Kadir said. “Persons must have heard when my husband was screaming when he was being chopped,” she added.
Sources close to the investigation say the men who killed Kadir had to have known the layout of the place, as they were able to disable the lights so as to make it difficult for the surveillance cameras to pick up their actions and identity.
Investigators also believe that Kadir had recognised his assailants when he confronted them as they were about to enter the compound.
According to Divisional Commander Marlon Chapman, whoever visited the compound knows the area well, and police are working on various leads.
Kadir, 53, of Foulis, ECD was killed on April 28, 2016 when he challenged two men who had entered the compound from the back. He had been chopped to the hands, head, torso and the face. He was buried Monday.
Reports are that the police received a call about the incident and responded, only to find Kadir lying motionless, surrounded by blood adjacent to his guard hut. Police picked up the wounded man and took him to the hospital where he succumbed.
At the scene of the crime, the killers made no attempt to break into the hardware store, nor did they take anything from the compound.
Relatives are hoping that the police are able to make a breakthrough in the case and question the former security guard about his knowledge and whereabouts at the time of the killing.
