THE 22nd annual Mayor’s Cup football tournament will finally kick-off today at the Victoria Community Centre ground, East Coast Demerara with an East Coast versus Linden double-header rivalry.The first game from 18:00hrs will see Ann’s Grove tackle Eagles United of Linden while from 20:00hrs, BV/Triumph take on Milerock of Linden.
The tournament is scheduled to continue tomorrow with another double-header at the same venue with the first game from 18:00hrs being contested between Mahaica and Soesdyke, while from 20:00hrs, Golden Grove face Buxton Bakewell.
The winning team of the tournament will receive $700 000 while the second-, third- and fourth-place teams will earn $300 000, $200 000 and $100 000 respectively.
The tournament was originally scheduled to get underway on May 1, but because of the consistent rainfall prior to May 1, the organiser Lennox Arthur was forced to reschedule to May 5, then again the inclement weather conditions forced Arthur to make another rescheduling to today.
