Terrence Mandray, 53, called “Throw back”, is in police custody after allegedly confessing to killing his 75-year-old mother, Cecilia Madray, called “Susie”.
Her body was discovered in a pool of blood on the floor of her Lot 2, Good Faith, Mahaicony, ECD home by members of the Community Policing Group (CPG) after neighbours had heard loud noises coming from the house.

The Guyana Chronicle understands that the bloodied body was discovered lifeless on a mattress covered with a mosquito net, and there was a gaping wound to the head. A post-mortem examination performed on the remains of Madray on Friday revealed that she died from a fractured skull and brain haemorrhage due to blunt trauma to the head. Blood was oozing from the ear.

While news of Madray’s death was shocking, it came as no surprise to many neighbours, who claimed she had faced abuse. In an interview with this publication, residents expressed disgust at not only the murder, but the rampant drug use that has become a scourge within the community.

“He is one of the most miserable creatures to come across when he drinks and smoke up the drugs. When he is sober he is okay, but when he get high is madness,” one woman disclosed.

Residents described the pensioner as a peaceful and easygoing woman who had lived under tremendous embarrassment because of her son’s activities.

One man explained that the property she lived in was sold by her son while they occupied the property.

“The man even beats his poor mother for money to support his drug-and-rum lifestyle. There must be a special place in hell for people like that,” another villager said.

This newspaper understands that the man had told police his mother was the victim of a slip-and-fall accident, but police did not believe him.

According to residents, after Madray’s husband died, she relocated to a foreign country to live with her daughter, who also passed away subsequently. Madray then returned to Guyana and lived with her son. She had been involved in an accident which had caused her to become bedridden.
