CLEVAUGHN Hamilton, called ‘Quarters,’ who allegedly confessed to killing the mother of his child, appeared before Magistrate Zamina Ally at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court Friday, charged with the indictable offense of murder.
Hamilton, 30, of Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison until May 18. He was represented by Attorney Patrice Henry.
It is alleged that between April 16 – 19 at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, the father of two, murdered 25 – year – old Simone Hackett of ‘C’ Field Sophia and dumped her body in a canal at Cummings Lodge.

During his court appearance, Hamilton, through his lawyer, alleged that he was beaten by inmates while in the holding cell at Sparendaam Police Station. According to the lawyer, he was denied the right to see his client.
After the court appearance, there was a confrontation between Hamilton’s relatives and the family of Hackett. Both sides were emotional as Hamilton was taken away by the police.
The mother of one was reported missing by relatives on April 17 after she had not returned the previous night after going to collect a package sent from Mahdia by Hamilton.
Investigators had questioned a bus driver and conductor who transported Hamilton to the city Friday last, a day before Hackett went missing.
According to the post-mortem report, Hackett died as a result of incised wounds to the neck. She was discovered by two schoolboys on their way to school and her body was positively identified by relatives.
Police ‘C’ Division Commander Marlon Chapman confirmed that the woman’s throat had been slashed and three stab wounds were evident to the back of the neck.
