A MAN was crushed to death at 36 Miles, Konawaruk Backdam, Region Eight, on Wednesday after the pick-up he was travelling in turned turtle. Dead is Jeevon Sam, 41, of Number Five Village, West Coast Berbice. According to reports, the driver of the vehicle was carrying three passengers and Sam was the lone person in the tray of the pick-up where an engine was located.
According to investigations, the driver lost control while travelling through the trail and the vehicle turned turtle, causing Sam and the engine to be flung out. He succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle was taken into police custody at the Mahdia Police Station and is assisting with the investigation.
When contacted, acting Traffic Chief Boodnarine Persaud confirmed the fatal accident. He also advised drivers and persons not to sit in the tray of vehicles unless it is fitted with proper seating accommodation, because without that it becomes a hazard.
