Edghill, Johnson strike gold in the Dominican Republic

GUYANA’S 18 years and under Junior Boys doubles pair of Kyle Edghill and Elishaba Johnson secured gold for Guyana in the Boys 18 years doubles event at the 21st 2016 Caribbean Junior & Cadet Table Tennis Championships being held in the Dominican Republic.The pair stormed to the title when they overcame the pair of Aaron Wilson and Joshua Maxwell of Trinidad and Tobago in the final by a 3-1 margin.
The duo, after losing the first game in the semi-final round, defeated the number 1 pair from the Dominican Republic by a 3-0 margin in a thrilling high intensity encounter.
The newly formed pair of Shemar Britton and Miguel Wong lost in the second round to finalists Arron Wilson and Joshua Maxwell (T&T) by a close 3-1 scoreline.
The team have now added gold to their earlier silver medal, secured in the team events which concluded yesterday.
This now guarantees Guyana’s team qualification into the first Pan American Junior and Cadet Championships scheduled for June 25-30 in Vancouver, Canada
The team now hunt gold in the individual events starting today. (Stephan Sookram)
