–says Council will cut and dispose of trailers, containers if not removed
TOWN CLERK Royston King has given business owners in Industrial Site, Georgetown a 48-hour ultimatum to remove their trailers and containers, which are badly parked in the area, or have them cut up and removed by the City Council.“The Council is concerned about the careless parking of trailers and containers in the Industrial Site area, which is in close proximity to our daycare center,” King told the Guyana Chronicle.
The trailers and containers are parked in a manner that is dangerous to life and limb, he pointed out. The City Council has already issued warnings to the business owners.
“The Town Clerk is moving within another 48 hours, with the appropriate tools, to begin cutting those trailers, containers and other materials in manageable sizes and removing them to our incinerator compound on Princes Street,” he disclosed.
He explained that there is a piece of land in the same area, known as the ‘Island,’ that is owned by the Council but that has been illegally fenced off by the business owners.
This land is intended for the beautification of the area, King noted.
He also expressed concern that the frequent movement of the trailers destroys the roads, causing depression, which in turn leads to accumulation of water and other environmental issues.
King said the trailers also give off radioactive emissions which are not healthy to those children and parents of the daycare, as well as all others who are in the area.
