FOOD for the Poor (FFP) has secured the release of four non-violent offenders who were incarcerated due to their inability to pay the required fines, even though the amounts were minimal.On Wednesday, the prisoners were interviewed at the Georgetown Prisons by FFP’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kent Vincent and Public Relations Manager Wayne Hamilton.
The CEO informed them of their impending release, and encouraged them to change their lives in a meaningful way.
According to a FFP release, the prisoners were treated at FFP’s office to a simple ceremony that included a special lunch and words of inspiration from the President and CEO of Food for the Poor Incorporated, Florida via telephone, Robin Mahfood; Chairman Paul Chan-A-Sue, CEO Kent Vincent, Director Paulette Charles, Finance Officer of the Prisons, Mark Smith and Father Jerry Dias, S.J. who said a special prayer for them.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, loaves of bread were shared and food hampers, clothing, personal care items and bibles were given to the prisoners. They also received cash for assistance with transportation.
Twice a year, during the week of Christmas and Holy Week at Easter, the Food for the Poor’s Prison Ministry Programme secures the release of inmates who had committed minor offences.
