Govt fixing schools, hospitals in Corentyne

REGIONAL Executive Officer (REO), Dr Veerasammy Ramayya, has advertised for bidders to do fixes to over 50 public buildings and roads in the East Berbice/Corentyne (Region Six) area. The REO advised that bids by contractors should be deposited no later than April 12 and must be accompanied by compliance certificates from the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) and the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA).
According to the invitation, the Regional Tender Board has identified for repairs roads leading to the Number 63 Beach, preparatory works for which have already commenced. The regional administration has done a major clean-up of the parapets, where secondary forests had mushroomed, between Joppa and Benab. Also, seven different trails have been opened that lead to the Number 63 Beach which this Easter attracted the biggest-ever crowd and revellers.
Carded for repair also are almost all primary and secondary schools between Canje and Port Mourant, and all hospitals and health centres on the Corentyne Coast. These schools and health facilities have suffered neglect over many years, but would now be fixed in keeping with the commitment of the coalition Government to provide a better life for citizens.
