ADVERTISEMENTS for the Bed-and-Breakfast programme will continue, as more lodgings are needed for visitors.Director General of the Department of Tourism, Donald Sinclair, during an interview with the Government Information Agency (GINA), said that most hotel rooms are already reserved for May for the 50th Anniversary Celebrations.
Sinclair said that the advertisements will encourage property owners who are interested in using parts of their properties for Bed-and-Breakfast (B&B) purposes to register with the Ministry of Tourism and the Guyana Tourism Authority.
“More persons will be registering. In fact, all week they’ve been calling the Department of Tourism, calling the Tourism Authority, to find out how they can become registered with the Bed-and-Breakfast programme,” Sinclair said.
According to Sinclair, the Guyana Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism have been inspecting potential B&B properties, and what they are seeing is very encouraging. He said some property owners have done quite a lot to ensure that their properties comply with the standards required.
The B&B programme is aimed at creating accommodation for visitors during the 50th Independence Anniversary Celebrations. A large influx of visitors is expected for the 50th Jubilee Festival, which will commence on May 19 and end on May 22.
