The Guyana Fire Service and members of the Tactical Services Unit are currently at the Camp Street Prison, following reports of a fire.

However, it is not yet clear if indeed there is a fire at the prison or what caused the police and fire department to respond. The Guyana Chronicle observed the fire trucks leaving the scene. More details will be provided as it becomes available in a subsequent report.

Only recently, a fire in the remand section of the prison claimed the lives of 17 prisoners.
