Sammy not seeking revenge against Sri Lanka

West Indies captain Darren Sammy maintains that revenge is not a motivating factor for his side as they prepare to meet Sri Lanka in the World Twenty20 today. At the tournament two years ago, West Indies lost out in the semi-finals to eventual champions Sri Lanka, who prevailed by 27 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis method.
The sides come into this clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore having tasted victory in their respective Super 10 openers.
A Chris Gayle-inspired Windies overcame England by six wickets, while Sri Lanka triumphed by the same margin against Group 1 outsiders Afghanistan.
Despite the disappointment of 2014, Sammy was quick to quell any talk of a revenge mission.
“I wouldn’t say it is revenge. If this match was the final then we could think on those lines but it is a group game,” he said.
“We respect them a lot and we have had great games between us. I hope it is a good game tomorrow. We want to keep winning. We want to execute our plans. You saw it against England.”

HOW WILL SRI LANKA WEATHER THE GAYLE STORM?

The big Jamaican was at his brutal best against England, racing to a century from just 47 balls as West Indies made light work of chasing down 183 for victory. Gayle smashed five fours and an incredible 11 maximums during his blitz, but if Sri Lanka can remove him before he gets into his stride they will strike a huge blow.
Gayle will, however, enjoy the comfort of familiar surroundings as he arrives at the home of his IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore.(Omnisport.com)
