TWENTY-nine-year-old Ravindra Bandoo, also known as ‘Birdie’, appeared at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court on Monday charged with murdering his reputed wife on March 8 at their Princetown, Corriverton home.

He appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh where he was refused bail and remanded to prison until April 04.
Detective Corporal Denzil Frank swore to the accuracy of the information which alleged that the defendant murdered Indrawattee Somwar, called ‘Sharda’, by chopping her to death.
Bandoo, who is a carpenter, was unpresented by counsel. However he told the court that he was never charged with any offence.
Later in the court yard he was overheard saying that he had given the victim “his all”, having commenced a relationship with her at the age of 16. Somwar, a mother of three, was 40-years-old at the time of her death.
Meanwhile, Police Prosecutor Godfrey Playter informed the court that statements are currently being reviewed as the investigation into the murder continues.
According to neighbours, the duo had shared an abusive relationship and Somwar was at the receiving end. A neighbour had told the Guyana Chronicle that when she heard the quarrel she thought that it was the usual conflict but it quickly escalated to extreme violence.
Reports indicated that Somwar realised that the situation was getting out of control and tried to escape from her home by running out of the yard.
But her reputed husband reportedly followed her and dealt her several chops about the body. She fell before she reached the gate and her attacker allegedly continued to chop her in the head until she ceased to move.
