THE iconic British rock band, The Rolling Stones, is planning to perform for the first time in the Caribbean at Easter with a free ground-breaking concert in Havana, Cuba, on Friday, 25 March. The “Concert for Amity” will take place at the Ciudad Deportiva de la Habana, the biggest act billed to play in the country since the revolution in 1959. Publicists said the once-in-a-lifetime concert follows the band’s America Latina Ole tour, where they are still playing to huge audiences and receiving rave reviews.
“We have performed in many special places during our long career but this show in Havana is going to be a landmark event for us, and, we hope, for all our friends in Cuba too,” the band said on its website.
The band will also be involved in a musician to musician initiative, donating instruments and equipment.
The concert by the Stones will come on the heels of the historic visit by President Barack Obama, who plans to attend the Tampa Bay Rays’ exhibition game in Cuba on 22 March, marking a turning point in the two countries’ relationship. (caribbeannewsnow.com)
