DDL on board KMTC’s Phagwah Day race meet for 43rd year

DEMERARA Distillers Limited (DDL) has stepped on board the Kennard Memorial Turf Club’s (KMTC) Annual Phagwah Day Horse Race meet for the 43rd year with the handing-over of the first-place trophy and a cheque for an undisclosed sum to Honorary President of the Club, Justice Cecil Kennard Thursday.The six-race event is set for Sunday at the club’s facility, Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice, beginning at 13:30hrs.
According to the former Chancellor of the Judiciary Justice Kennard, this is the 43rd year that DDL has been supporting horse race meets for the club and he welcomes the contribution which the company made yesterday at a very simple ceremony.
According to the Chairman of the Police Complaints Authority, DDL has been very supportive of the KMTC’s activities and it is his hope that the beverage giants will continue to support KMTC in years to come.
DDL’s Ivanoff Vodka Brands Manager Maria Munroe said her company is pleased to be associated with KMTC and, apart from part sponsoring the feature race on Sunday’s card which is the one-mile event for horses classified G1 and Lower, DDL has committed to sponsoring three more races planned for later in the year.
Munroe, a national hockey player, said she is expecting a great turnout of turfites as she anticipates the day’s activity will be very exciting.
Munroe praised Justice Kennard and his team for always being well organised and putting on a good show at their meets.
Justice Kennard disclosed that over 60 horses have been registered for the meet and he anticipates keen rivalry.
Justice Kennard said the Phagwah Day meet usually attracts a lot of spectators and this year should not be different. He said, `”We don’t need just the support of the sponsors, but the support of the public as well.
