..Christ Church, North Georgetown, South Ruimveldt also advance

Defending Champions Chase Academy defeated Kinston Secondary 3 – 1 to keep on track for a title repeat while Christ Church, North Ruimveldt and South Ruimveldt Secondary also secured wins to advance to the quarter-finals of the Petra Organisation/Milo School’s Football tournament.Playing at the Ministry of Education Ground yesterday, Chase Academy, one of the tournament’s favourites, got their goals from Kelsey Benjamin (7th minute), Ryan Hackett (17th minute) and Sonel Logan (29th minute), while Kingston Secondary’s lone strike came off the boot of Vincent Thomas in the 16th minute.

Christ Church secondary also booked their quarter-final berth with a 3 – 1 win over Queenstown Secondary.

North Georgetown Secondary whipped St John’s College 4 – 2 thanks to goals from Nehemiah Gomes (41st), Daniel Nedd (51st), Osafo Matheson (74th) and Christopher Waddell in the 83rd minute.

Darien Dickson (8th) and Joel Yhap (30th) were the goal scorers for St John’s College.

Meanwhile, South Ruimveldt edged Mae’s Secondary 4 – 3 on penalty, after the two schools finished regulation and extra time on a gaol each.

South Ruimveldt, who controlled the contest from early, went down on an own goal in the 29th minute, due to a defensive blunder, but would rebound to correct their mistake in the 55th minute, when Cecil Jackman found the net.

However, it took a penalty to decide the winner as South Ruimveldt held their nerves to win and end Mae’s fantastic run in the tournament.

The quarter-finals will be played on Sunday March 13 at the same venue. (Rawle Toney)
