Playing in East Bank organsied football for the first time, the village of Friendship made the best possible start when they defeated defending champions Herstelling Raiders 2-0 as play in the East Bank Football Association (EBFA) / Ralph Green sponsored Under-11 League kicked off yesterday at the Grove Playfield.Both goals were scored via the penalty route by star of the Friendship team, Shavi Atkinson who led the team well and showed a good head for the game.
The match started with both teams trying to field each other out but it was the Friendship unit which looked the more experienced of the two as they passed the ball around with Atkinson leading the charge.
In the 5th minute of the first half, Friendship was awarded a penalty which was clinically put away by Atkinson past Herstelling’s goalkeeper Tyron Persaud. The first half ended with Friendship holding on to their advantage.
The debutants continued to look the better of the two sides and was again awarded a penalty in the 23rd minute for a handled ball in the area. Atkinson again stepped up to take the kick and he scored again to give his side a 2-0 advantage which remained until full time in the 30 minute encounter.
Competition will continue next Saturday morning at the same venue.
