THE trial of Cobin Stephen for attempted murder began yesterday at the Demerara Assizes before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow and a mixed jury.The prosecution attempted to put an alleged oral confession in evidence when the accused objected.
This sparked off the holding of a voir dire (a trial within a trial) by the judge to determine the admissibility of the alleged confession.
The voir dire is expected to conclude today after which the general trial is expected to continue.
