FORTY-two-year-old Linden Isaacs of Belfield, East Coast Demerara,was yesterday found not guilty of rape allegedly committed on a 16-year-old girl.The accused who was represented by Attorney-at-law Mr. Leslie Sobers had pleaded not guilty.
The allegation by the State was that he had sex with a girl under the age of16 years.
The prosecution presented nine witnesses and the defence, one witness.
It seems from the verdict that the jury had accepted the story as told by the defence or that they were in doubt.
The prosecution, which began its case last Friday had at the close submitted that it made out a case against the accused.
But the defence thought otherwise and claimed that the prosecution had not proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
The presiding judge was Ms. Seunaraine-Beharry.
Prosecuting were Miss Tuanna Hardy, Miss Stacy Goodings, and Miss Orenthia Schmidt.
