THE Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) presented an airline ticket to world-ranked player Narayan Ramdhani, who will be attending the 11th Peru Junior Under-19 International Championships 2016 from March 8-11, 2016 in Lima.He will be attending along with team-mate Jonathan Mangra.
According to a release, “The GBA is amazed that Guyana’s top athletes still have to struggle to gain sponsorship for top and world-ranked athletes to date, especially when the main factor is that the Golden Arrowhead flies in the International arenas.”
The release stated: “We do hope in the future that the entities responsible for sports and also the interested private sector can understand why it is necessary to be involved with sport and the mileage it can give them.”
This will be the first of a series of international tournaments in which Guyana will be taking part, in an attempt to ensure that the players get higher world-ranking points.
These two players are the most recent winners of the season-opening Gumdac Open Doubles last week and are not new in the international arena. They also medalled in the Caribbean Games last year in both the Singles & Doubles division.
They are currently in training for this Peru International in which they are expected to do well in both the Boys Singles and Boys Doubles Events.
The GBA would like to thank the Director of Sport Christopher Jones and the NSC for their contribution, Mr. Wayne Kanhai of Yellow Mining and Mr. David Fernandes of Bounty Farms.
