A RIVER accident involving two speed boats Saturday afternoon claimed the life of a 16- year-old female resident of Moruca in the North West District.Dead is Alicia Romascindo of Koko, a community at Moruca. She was a student of the Santa Rosa Secondary School.
Reports are that around 14:30 hrs, Romascindo and her two siblings were in a small boat which was powered by a 15 hp engine when it collided with a bigger boat which plies the Charity/Port Kaituma route.
The accident occurred in the vicinity of the Acquero Landing near the Santa Rosa area in Moruca. The young lady was rushed to the Kumaka District Hospital but succumbed soon after. Her two siblings escaped with minor injuries.
The Guyana Chronicle understands that the operator of the bigger boat which was involved in the accident sped away from the scene. However, he was later detained at the Acquero Police Station at Moruca.
