By Joe Chapman

MILEROCK, currently positioned at number three, should be eyeing to reach the top of the points standing when they play Botofago today at 20:30hrs in the Upper Demerara Football Association’s Division One League championship. The other encounter of the double-header at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground is between Net Rockers and Eagles United in the first game at 18:30hrs.
Milerock are on 10 points, three adrift of the current leaders Topp XX and a win could see them climb from their 10 points to occupy the lead jointly with Topp XX.
In the latest round of matches played last Friday at the MSC ground, first-half goals decided the winners. Topp XX maintained their hold of the podium position with a 4-0 drubbing of Botofago as Keon Halls netted in the 5th minute, Monty Simon in the 20th, Travis Waterton in the 34th and Tyric McAllister in the 42nd minute.
On the same night, Silver Shattas moved into the second position with 12 points, one behind Topp XX as they brushed aside Milerock 2-0 due to goals from Dellon McAllister in the 2nd minute and Damion Williams in the 36th minute.
This Friday the championship continues with two more matches. At 18:30hrs Hi Stars face Amelia’s Ward Panthers and at 20:30hrs, Silver Shattas meet Topp XX.
At present Topp XX are leading with 13 points from six completed matches in the team championship with four wins, one loss and one draw, Silver Shattas remain the only unbeaten team with 12 points from six games played with three wins and three draws, Federal Winners Connection and Milerock have ten points from six games with three wins, two losses and one draw.
Hi stars are on eight points from five games with two wins, one draw and two losses. Net Rockers are on seven points with six matches played having two wins, three losses and one draw, while Botofago are on six points from two wins and two defeats with Blueberry Hill, Eagles United and Amelia’s Ward Panthers each on four points with five games played for one win, three losses and one draw each.
