THE ongoing revitalised probe into the execution of activist Courtney Crum-Ewing took an even more interesting twist on Wednesday when popular former press and publicity officer to then Presidents Bharrat Jagdeo and Donald Ramotar was locked down at a police facility.Yesterday a party of policemen swooped down on the Diamond home of Kwame McCoy to effect an arrest, but came up empty-handed as the former senior Office of the President employee in the Peoples Progressive Party Civic government was not at home.

However, word reached McCoy that the police had visited his home, and after making contact with senior police sources, he decided to head down to the Criminal Investigation Department, where he was immediately taken into custody.

Contacted last evening, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed that McCoy was in police custody for questioning as part of the ongoing probe into the Crum-Ewing murder. In 2015, McCoy had reportedly presented the police with a statement in relation to the matter.

Kwame McCoy’s detention comes two days after his close ally Jason Abdulla was on Monday arrested in connection with the same investigation, and then on Tuesday, former self-confessed death squad member Sean Hinds was picked up from his home, also as part of the investigation.
Guyana Chronicle has been reliably informed that several other persons are likely to be picked up as part of the probe, even as Abdulla and Hinds remain in the custody of the police.

Crum-Ewing was an anti-government protestor while the PPP was in power, and he was executed months before the General and Regional Elections of 2015.

Courtney Crum-Ewing became popular after he led a one-man picketing exercise in front of the office of former Attorney General Anil Nandlall, calling for his removal from office. Hinds, last year in an explosive interview with a television journalist — which was aired in parts — confirmed that he was responsible for the execution of several male Guyanese as part of his operations as a member of the Phantom Squad.
