FUEL PRICES at gas stations across the city reflected the reduction announced by Finance Minister Winston Jordon on Friday during his Budget speech. At gas stations of the state-owned Guyana Oil Company (GUYOIL) the price of gasoline displayed on the boards was $170 per litre; diesel was selling for $150 per litre; and kerosene was being sold at $90 per litre.
Minister Jordan announced on Friday that with effect from February 1, the prices of fuel sold by GUYOIL would be reduced with gasoline being reduced by $20 from $190 and $170, while $30 was deducted from kerosene, which was being sold at $120.
Other fuel companies have also begun to reduce their prices. At the SOL gas station on Vlissengen Road, gas and diesel were being sold at the same price as Guyoil. The price boards reflected the old prices, but staff there said it was just a matter of changing the price as the new price was on offer from 14: 00 hrs.
At the Rubis service stations, the prices remained the same and personnel at the Vlissengen Road branch said prices were expected to drop during this week. Also, at the Rubis service station on Mandela Avenue, gas was being retailed at $190 per gallon, while dieseline was being sold at $162 per gallon.
Global oil prices have been decreasing over the past several months.
