HOSTS Blairmont Blazers easily won the Roy Fredericks Memorial T20 Cup on Sunday via the Duckworth/Lewis method with nine balls to spare against D’Edward Warriors. Asked to bat first under overcast conditions, Lakeraj Sookraj (27) and Altaf Khan (15) gave D’Edward Warriors a dream start, adding 29 in three overs before Sookraj was removed by Ramdhan.

Ritesh Bridelall and Khan took the total to 51 before D’Edward Warriors lost Bridgelall (12), Khan, Heeralall Bridge, Devindra Lalsa and Eon Abel, to slip to 72-6 when the rains came after 12.3 overs.
Set the Duckworth/Lewis-adjusted target of 73 from 9.3 overs after rain brought a premature end to the D’Edward Warriors innings, the hosts made the worst possible start when Nick Ramsaroop was run-out for three, at 6-1.
However, Mahendra Singh (18) joined forces with Kevon Jawair (27), and together the pair took the Blazers to 46, before Singh was dismissed.
Former Berbice Under-17 opening batsman Zameer Inshan (17 not out) then dominated a 19-run third-wicket stand with Jawahir which eventually took the Blazers within sight of victory.
With eight runs required from 15 deliveries after the dismissal of Jawahir and Permanand Ramdhan, Javid Karim and Inshan took their team home safely. Kevon Jawahir was named player-of-the-final.
Meanwhile, the first semi-final game was reduced to 15 overs aside, due to rain. Cotton Tree Die Hard lost to D’Edward Warriors by nine runs.
Scores: D’Edward Warriors 143-4 with Ritesh Bridelall 42 not out and Devindra Lalsa 34. In reply Cotton Tree Die Hard made 132-9 with Nashad Gafoor 41 and B. Persaud 43. Ritesh Bridelall took 5-9 bowling for the winners.
The other semi-final game which was reduced to 12 overs aside saw Blairmont Blazers defeat Bath Underdogs by five wickets.
Scores: Bath Underdogs made 74-8 with Avishkar Sewkarran hitting 32. Waqar Hassan 3-18, Shabeer Baksh 2-14 and Kevon Jawahir 2-15 were the successful bowlers for the Blazers.
In reply, the Blazers reached 75-5, with Nick Ramsaroop 40 not out.
The one-day event was held in memory of the late West Indies opening batsman Roy Fredericks. All proceeds from the day’s event will assist in the managing and development of the club.
