RHT Farfan and Mendes U-15 team dedicate championship to memory of Derek Mendes

THE Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club’s Farfan and Mendes Ltd Under-15 team have dedicated their title to the late Derek Mendes, founder of Farfan and Mendes.The team last Sunday defeated Blairmont in the Tenelec final by 112 runs, and in the process reclaimed the Berbice Championship.
The championship was the fifth major title that the team have won since Farfan and Mendes came on board with the club in 1997.
Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster in an invited comment stated that the members of the team were saddened at the sudden passing of Mendes and were determined to win the final in his memory.
Farfan and Mendes has pumped over $3M into the team and has played a major role in the careers of players like Test player Assad Fudadin, ODI player Royston Crandon, West Indies female cricketer Shemaine Campbelle, Khemraj Mahadeo, Delbert Hicks, Abdel Fudadin, Plaffina Millington, Dominic Rekhi, Shawn Pereira among others.
The current team, which has a rich pool of talent and with players like the highly talented Kevlon Anderson, Junior Sinclair, Keith Simpson, Brandon Corlette, Chanderpaul Govindan and Surendra Budhoo, the future of the RHTYSC is secure.
Farfan and Mendes recently renewed its cricket sponsorship for 2016 and according to Foster, heavy emphasis would be placed on making sure that each junior cricketer develops to fulfil his/her true potential.
The club would also be renaming its Cricketer-of-the-Year award the Derek Mendes Memorial Under-15 Cricketer Award.
