SOME 130 persons received their Titles and Transports for houselots in Region 6 (East Berbice/Corentyne) in the boardroom of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) on Tuesday last.Some 200 persons are to be given similar documents for lands in Region Five (Mahaica/Berbice) on February 2nd and 3rd next. The documents for the recipients of lands in Region Six were handed over by Ms. Oma Haripersaud, Regional Housing Officer for Regions Five and Six.
It was she also who made the disclosure about a similar exercise upcoming in Region Five early next week. The handing-over was witnessed by Regional Executive Officer of Region Six, Dr Veerasammy Ramayya and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister in Region Six, Gobin Harbhajan.
The beneficiaries received Titles and Transport for lands at Fort Ordanance Housing Scheme, East Canje, at #76 Village housing scheme and Kilcoy/Chesney housing scheme on the Courentyne and Glasgow housing scheme on the East Bank of Berbice.
Ms. Haripersaud disclosed that the handing over to 130 persons in East Berbice had served to ease the backlog of Titles and Transports to be completed, somewhat. She said that a recent reorganisation of the Registry which provides support for such documentation had led to a faster processing of applications and the backlog was being gradually reduced.
She urged the successful applicants to expedite construction of homes on their lands, so that they can get full benefits of their Titles and Transports. The presentation of Titles and Transports for lands in Region Five next week will be done at the RDC’s headquarters at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice, beginning from at 9 AM on February 2nd and 3rd next.
