VETERAN golfer Mike Gayadin was in fine form as he outperformed his counterparts to capture the top prize in the Safeway Security-sponsored golf tournament on Saturday.Gayadin cleared the friendly rivalry of brothers Roy and Andre Cummings, who spaced second and third respectively, at the end of the day.
Scores were as follows: Gayadin 15/80/65; R. Cummings 11/79/68; and A. Cummings 16/85/69.
Best Gross (79) also was delivered by Roy Cummings, and Nearest to The Pin (about 10 ft) was won by Club vice-president, Patrick Prashad.
Eon Caesar, Managing Director of Safeway Security, whose motto is ‘Security with you in mind’, was on hand to distribute prizes while congratulating the winners.
In his brief remarks he declared that he was happy to be starting the tournaments this year for the LGC, and again pledged the support of his company to the LGC. He also mentioned that he was looking forward to seeing many youths and more adults involved in golfing in Guyana.
Golf Club president, Mr Oncar Ramroop, noting that the condition of the access road would have prevented some persons from coming to the Club, appealed for those present to see how they could garner assistance to get the road repaired urgently.
Efforts via the Regional Development Council and the Neighbourhood Democratic Council had not yielded fruit so far, but the road is in need of urgent attention.
Ramroop also expressed gratitude to Caesar for the good support of the Golf Club, and also extended New Year greetings to all club members and their families, wishing them lots of golfing in 2016.
