TWO teenage youths appeared in the Fort Wellington Magistrates Court, West Coast Berbice, yesterday, charged with the gruesome murders of West Coast Berbice businessman Arthur Rajkumar and his reputed wife Dianne Chamanlall.
Gocoul Madanpaul,18, of 175 Block B, Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, also known as “Clown” and Nazamadeen Raffick, 19, also known as “Shazam” of Bush Lot, also in West Coast Berbice, stood with expressionless faces as Magistrate Rhondell Weaver read the capital charge to them.
The charge laid by Detective Constable Doris, read that they murdered Rajkumar and Chamanlall at lot 93A Bush Lot between Friday, January 8 and Saturday, January 9, 2016, in furtherance of a burglary.
Madanpaul subsequently told the magistrate that he was a fisherman while Raffick described himself as a food vendor.
Magistrate Weaver remanded the two to jail until February 3, when the matter will be brought up before her for a police progress report.
Though one of the two youths appearing in court yesterday had confessed to the murder of Ms Anita Baichan, 49, at Bath Settlement on January 3 last, only the charge for the Bush Lot murders was read out in Court.
An official said that a capital charge for the Bath Settlement murder will soon be laid against him.
A third suspect held by police on Tuesday last did not appear in court.
The Guyana Chronicle was informed that he had confessed to the killing of Ms Baichan and the destruction of her home by fire at Bath Settlement, as well as to the bloody murders of Mr Rajkumar and Ms Chamanlall at Bush Lot.
He was up to yesterday being held pending charges.
