AFTER suffering a heart-breaking one-run loss to the Windward Islands Vulcanoes in their opening match of this year’s NAGICO Super50 West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) limited overs tournament, via the Duck-worth Lewis system, Guyana Jaguars bounced back to inflict a crushing 72-run win over the hapless Leeward Islands Hurricanes at Warner Park, St Kitts yesterday.Led by a resolute 81 from veteran middle-order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul and an quick-fire 30 towards the end by Veerasammy Permaul, Guyana Jaguars reached 219 for nine in their allotted 50 overs after being inserted by Leewards skipper Jamhar Hamilton.
The Jaguars lost four early wickets for 82 runs before Chanderpaul kept the middle-order intact with his vast experience. Quinton Boatswain finished with four for 54.
The Leewards Islands Hurricanes were never in the hunt as they were dismissed for 147 in 45.5 overs with Odelmo Peters hitting a top-score of 35 while Chesney Hughes scored 29.
There wickets were shared among Raymon Reifer, Permaul, Royston Crandon, Gudakesh Motie and Paul Wintz with one each.
Guyana Jaguars will oppose the Combined Campuses & Colleges in their next encounter at the St Paul’s ground, St Kitts, tomorrow.
