Scores: Perth Scorchers 0 for 171 (Klinger 90*, Marsh 76*) beat Melbourne Renegades 170 for 4 (Finch 72, Gayle 41, Behrendorff 2-14) by 10 wickets.
Marsh was dropped for the second Test hammering of West Indies despite scoring 182 in the first Test in Hobart and the left-hander responded by making 76 from only 54 balls as the Scorchers claimed a second successive win at the Etihad Stadium yesterday.
Klinger’s impressive form continued as he made a brilliant unbeaten 90 in a record partnership for the Scorchers to ensure the two-time defending champions chased down the Renegades’ total of 170-4 with eight balls to spare.
Aaron Finch had smashed a scintillating 72 and put on 98 for the first wicket with Chris Gayle (41) in just 11.2 overs, but the hosts slumped to a second BBL defeat in three matches.
The powerful Finch took 14 runs off the first three balls of the second over from Joel Paris after the Renegades were put in to bat by Klinger.
Gayle then launched Brad Hogg for back-to-back sixes before being caught behind off the impressive Jason Behrendorff (2-14), who then got rid of Cameron White first ball.
Finch cleared the ropes three times and hit a further six boundaries, while Matthew Wade made a brisk 35 to ensure the Scorchers were set a challenging target.
But the outstanding Klinger and Marsh made light work of getting them home by dishing out punishment to the Renegades attack in a magnificent unbroken opening stand.
Klinger took just 34 balls to bring up his second successive half-century and deserved three figures, with Marsh matching his fellow opener’s tally of three sixes to take his tally against the Renegades to 281 runs in his last four innings.
