AFTER being on the run for five years, a man who reportedly murdered a gold miner was yesterday arraigned for the offence. Twenty-six-year-old vendor, Seon Anthony Edwards of Diamond, East Bank Demerara was not required to plead to the indictable charge of murder, which was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The charge read that on September 20, 2010, he murdered Rawle Peters at the Puruni Landing, Cuyuni River.
Edwards, also known as ‘Rasta Man,’ was arrested midday last Tuesday in the vicinity of Regent and Hincks Streets, while selling bottled water.
The accused reportedly confessed to killing Peters during an argument after the deceased accused him of stealing a sum of money. The argument turned physical, and the accused is said to have stabbed Edwards to his heart before escaping.
He was remanded to prison and the matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrates’ Court for January 15, 2016.
