Cops say… Stolen items found in accused’s homes

DENZEL Matthias (24) and Martin Nurse (18), gold miners of Block X Diamond Housing Scheme were yesterday remanded to prison, accused of breaking into a nearby home. The two young men made their first court appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, where they both pleaded not guilty to the charge after the Administration of Justice Act was applied.
The charge states that on December 23, 2015 at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, they broke and entered the dwelling house of Seaid Ashelia Persaud, and stole two laptop computers, a quantity of gold jewellery and clothing, along with other items totaling $1M, property of Persaud
Police Prosecutor Kerry Boswick objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the offence and the fact that the stolen articles were recovered at the homes of the two defendants.
The Chief Magistrate refused the men bail based on the objections by the Prosecution. The men will make their next court appearance on January 18 at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
