The Leader of the Opposition and People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) Members of Parliament (MPs) extend Yoman Nabi greetings to all our Muslim brothers and sisters across Guyana. The birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet Muhammad inspires hope, a sentiment that is needed at this time in our country. Muslims recognise that Youman Nabi also represents the struggles for justice, peace and equality – all qualities that, not only Muslims, but all Guyanese need to embrace as we move forward as a nation and as we confront the challenges of our time.
The teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) belie principles that all Guyanese should emulate and comes at a time that should be used for reflection. The Prophet Muhammad was able to change the conditions of his society, using the message of the holy Quran and his conduct of living.
Although Prophet Muhammad’s message addressed Arabs first, his nearest audience, it was not limited to a particular nation. Many Qur’anic verses transcend locality, region, ethnicity, and nationality by starting with the call, “O Human beings,” or “O People.”
The Muslim community in Guyana, like many Muslims across the globe, has made a significant contribution of our society using the lessons of the Holy Quran. As we celebrate Yoman Nabi, all Guyanese should commit to these teachings and principles as we strive for a better Guyana, one that is inclusive, progressive and prosperous.
