FORTY-FIVE-year-old Harrichand Mahadeo of Truli Island, Essequibo River succumbed yesterday to injuries he sustained during a brawl with his wife, Gaitree Lakeram, who is one year his senior.The argument the two were involved in on December 17 turned into a fight that ended with both suffering injuries. Lakeram was reportedly treated and sent away, while the badly wounded Mahadeo was hospitalised.
Legal advice was subsequently obtained on the matter, and they were both charged with attempted murder.
Mahadeo took self-discharge from the hospital on Sunday, and went back home. The couple appeared in court on Monday and were each placed on $100,000 bail, but remained in custody as they were unable to raise the money.
While in prison, Mahadeo complained of feeling unwell, and was taken to the Suddie Hospital, where he succumbed yesterday morning.
Police are investigating the incident.
