Businessman looks to appeal rape conviction

BUSINESSMAN Kevin Jordan, who was convicted of a criminal offence involving a young boy, is attempting to appeal his case, although the time to file an appeal has passed. He was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment by Justice Dawn Gregory.
Jordan’s application to the Court for an extension of time within which to appeal states that he was waiting until he was sentenced by the trial judge before giving his lawyer instructions to appeal. That, he said, was the reason he filed his Notice of Appeal late.

Acting Chancellor Carl Singh, Justice of Appeal B.S Roy, and additional Judge Rishi Persaud began hearing the application at the Court of Appeal on Thursday. The hearing continues on Monday.

Judith Mursalin, Assistant Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), is representing the respondent. Senior Counsel Rex Mc Kay and Attorney Neil Boston are appearing for Jordan.
