A cry for justice

DENISE McPherson is still devastated by the barbaric murder of her 18-year-old daughter, Alicia Mc Pherson, whose life was cruelly snuffed out when her 21-year-old carpenter boyfriend, Lloyd Marks, stabbed her 41 times at a party in Sophia, Georgetown, before he became a fugitive from justice by going into hiding. She is very concerned that while the man who murdered Alicia is still at large, having reportedly boarded a bus bound for Mahdia, Region 7, on the night of the incident, Police have, during all this time, not communicated to her the status of their investigation into the barbaric ending of her teen’s life.
Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle, Denise McPherson revealed that it is difficult to move on without her life. As a deeply grieving mother, she is seeking justice for her daughter, and does not want her death to be another statistic in the unsolved mysteries file.
“He stabbed her 41 times, 21 times in her face,” Denise recalled, as she began crying whilst talking about Alicia receiving stab wounds in various parts of her body, including her neck and upper body, and even in the back of her head.
“I would still be crying,” she said. And as she cried during the interview, the woman said, “Alicia was loving; I never had a problem with her. She was a real helpful girl; when I gone out, she used to do everything for me.”
DENIAL
Denise said her daughter had never previously complained about her boyfriend being abusive, but she recalled once spotting a big bite mark on Alicia’s hand.
When she had asked Alicia about the mark, the teen had become very defensive, quickly assuring that something had bitten her.
She said she had taken a closer look at the bite mark and had realised that it was a person’s teeth mark. Alicia had then told her that she and Marks had been playing when he had bitten her. She said she had also noticed that the teen would sometimes wear clothing with long sleeves.
FATEFUL NIGHT
She said Alicia had left home with other neighbourhood youths to attend a party at Cappy’s Place in Dennis Street, Sophia, but several persons had seen her boyfriend receiving her beyond the gate, and had observed that they danced all night.
Whatever issue had caused the fatal disagreement, she said, Alicia died as a result of multiple stab wounds. Her boyfriend had left her alone to die, but another reveller had observed her bleeding on the ground and had sounded an alarm. Alicia had attended St Mary’s High School, and had successfully written seven subjects at the Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate (CSEC). Her ambition was to become a graphic artist.
Denise McPherson says her other children — two girls and a boy — also miss their sister, who used to take care of them from a tender age.
The woman said she needs justice.
