Rental agreement…not a theft

Twenty-six -year -old Ranford Williams of Grant Street, Bachelor Adventurer was yesterday placed on $150,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after he was charged with simple larceny. The police report states that between September 14 and November 14, 2015, at Vendors Arcade, he stole from Lashawn Greaves, a laptop computer valued $60,000; a fan valued $15,000, APS back up battery valued $19,999, a quantity of cordless phones valued $75,000, a router valued $15,000, a modem valued $10,000 and a GTT landline phone– all to a total value of $294,990.
An application for the Administration of Justice Act was applied and he denied the charge stating that he was entrusted with the items by Greaves through a rental agreement.
Williams who was unrepresented stated to the court that he was incarcerated at Covent John Police Station when the incident accorded.
In his objection to bail the Police Prosecutor said that the defendant had brought back some of the items and that he was once convicted and fined for a matter of a similar nature.
He is expected to return to court on the January 13, 2016.
