TTFA could be banned for failure to pay former coach

FIFA Manager of Member Associations Luca Nicola has warned that Trinidad and Tobago may be banned from the qualifiers of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar if it fails to settle an outstanding debt to a former coach.

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) is yet to settle a debt with former coach Even Pellerud, who was in charge of the team from 2008-2012.

In that respect, Nicola cautioned that a disciplinary ruling, issued on July 23 has given the TTFA around 120 days to settle the US$200,000 debt. The deadline for the payment had already passed.

“The TTFA has to understand that this debt has to be settled immediately. The deadline passed on the 23rd of November, so the TTFA will have to find a solution and settle the debt with former national coach Pellerud as soon as possible to avoid any repercussions on the World Cup qualifiers for Qatar,” he explained.

“As far as I was informed, the disciplinary committee said the deadline is set but the suspension for the qualifiers for 2022 will only take effect if coach Pellerud requires such
. The coach has not requested the disciplinary committee to take the measure of suspending T&T from the qualifiers for 2022,” Nicola said.
