TWENTY FIVE persons, fourteen of whom are entrepreneurs registered with the Small Business Bureau, recently participated in a one-day Leadership, Planning and Time Management workshop hosted by EMPRETEC Guyana, at the Georgetown Club, 208 Camp Street, Georgetown. The workshop was facilitated by Ms. Ruth Lee who is a certified Human and Social Development trainer.
Some of the areas covered in the November 3 workshop, included Critical Thinking for Leaders; Planning Tools for Effective Management; Improving Time Management Skills; and Tips for Effective Time Management.
Commenting on the objectives of the workshop, Development Officer Ms. Rhonda Nelson stated that the ability to manage effectively is based on a number of key skills – skills that are highly sought after by employers as they involve dealing with people in such a way as to motivate, enthuse and build respect and that is what the workshop has been able to impart to the participants.
She added that companies also want managers who can effectively and efficiently manage and utilise time to achieve maximum productivity.
“Good time management requires an important shift in focus from activities to results. It is for these reasons that EMPRETEC chose to host this workshop. In addition, Christmas is the busiest season of the year and this is the time when managers need to maximise the use of their limited resources to achieve maximum results,” Nelson said.
Meanwhile, feedback from the participants was excellent with most saying that the workshop was excellent and the topics covered were most useful. The facilitator. Ms. Lee used different methods of teaching which sought to make the workshop interesting.
“Now that these managers have gained tremendously from this workshop, it is the hope that they would be able to pass on some of what they learnt to their staff,” the development officer concluded.
EMPRETEC Guyana continues to cater to the training needs of entrepreneurs in Guyana. On Wednesday November 18, 2015 EMPRETEC will host a Customer Service workshop and a Water Certification workshop will be conducted from Tuesday November 24 to Friday November 27, 2015. To sign up for any of these two workshops, persons can contact the EMPRETEC office at J Lama Avenue, Bel Air Park or on telephone numbers 225-1219 or 225-4330 or email empretecguyanainc@gmail.com.
